RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist women's soccer program returns to CBU Soccer Stadium this week after spending two weeks on the road in Utah for Western Athletic Conference play. The Lancers are set to host Utah Valley on Saturday evening as the second half of conference competitions begins this week. CBU enters the week with a 4-1 record during WAC play after a perfect week against Southern Utah and Utah Tech for a second-place spot in the conference table. Utah Valley sits at the top with a 4-0-1 record after drawing a 3-3 tie against the Trailblazers.
The Lancers swept the WAC Weekly Awards this week after their impressive week in Utah, which saw Anja Jestrovic score a pair of goals with an assist to keep CBU in the running for a regular-season conference title. Summer Allen and Mikayla O'Brien were phenomenal in the defensive third, allowing just 10 shots from their opponents in two matches while earning a pair of shutouts. The Lancers will be looking to avenge their 7-1 loss to the Wolverines from earlier this season on Saturday evening, owning a home-field advantage. Ava Westlund still owns the most goals for CBU this season, picking up her sixth of the year against Southern Utah earlier this week.
After opening conference with a bang, Utah Valley slowed down a little last week after tying Utah Tech 3-3 before picking up a shutout 3-0 win over Southern Utah. Their pair of matches last week was the first road games of the conference schedule for UVU, contributing to a losing away record this season for the Wolverines at 2-3-1. Faith Webber and Ruby Hladek continue to be stellar on offense, each picking up a combined 10 goals during conference play this season.
Saturday's match is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff at CBU Soccer Stadium.
