SALT LAKE CITY, UT --- Two Lancers recorded their first CBU double-doubles on Saturday, but it wasn't enough, as the Lancers' road trip ended with a 91-85 loss in Salt Lake City. Taking on their third Big 12 opponent in a row, the Lancers stayed on Utah's heels throughout but couldn't find the go-ahead bucket to lead CBU to victory.
Saturday's loss, CBU's third in a row, drops the Lancers to 7-3. Utah's victory pushes them to the same mark on the season.
CBU's offense was fueled by Dominique Daniels Jr., as the graduate guard took 28 of the Lancers' 72 attempts from the field. Daniels Jr. knocked down 13 field goals, the second most in a single game in CBU's Division I era. His 11 boards are a new career-high, as seven of those came on the defensive end.
Daniels Jr. was one rebound away from a double-double at halftime, as he entered the locker room with 20 points and nine rebounds. Before Saturday, six was Daniels Jr.'s career-high for rebounds in a game.
Thomas Ndong also wrapped up the game with a double-double, as he pulled down 11 boards to pair with 14 points. Ndong was back in the lineup after missing Wednesday's game in the Delta Center with an injury.
Martel Williams also ended in double-figures with 14 points.
Ndong and Daniels Jr. combined for 22 of CBU's 47 rebounds. The Lancers outrebounded Utah 47-30, marking the eighth time this season CBU won the rebound battle. Saturday also marks the first time this season CBU has won the rebound battle and lost.
The Lancers' only lead came early in Saturday's game, a 3-2 advantage 90 seconds into regulation. Utah regained the lead shortly after and never relinquished it.
Utah ultimately led for 38:19 of Saturday's matchup.
The Utes were led by Terrence Brown, whose 27 points came on 9-of-16 from the field. Don McHenry ended the night with 21 points. The Utes had four players finish in double figures.
CBU began its stint on the road one week ago when it took down Oregon State in Corvallis. The trip then continued with a loss in Boulder against Colorado. CBU has been in Salt Lake City since Tuesday, and will now return to Southern California for a week of rest before hitting the road again.
The Lancers will be back on the court on Friday, December 12, when they travel north to play Eastern Washington. CBU's next home game comes on December 16 when Southern University enters the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center.
