RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University softball returned to the win column on Tuesday night, defeating Big West foe CSUN 3-2 at Funk Stadium. The win puts an end to a season-long four-game skid and provides the Lancers with momentum as they return to Western Athletic Conference play this weekend against Southern Utah.

Sydney Soto was the only player on either team with a multi-hit game, going 2-2 with an RBI, a run scored on her third home run of her career and first of 2025. Kate Penberthy was cooking on both sides of the card today, making multiple snags defensively at third to save bases and potential runs while also knocking the game-winning two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Arguably, the most impactful performance of the night came from the circle as senior starter Morgan McConnell tossed her 14th career complete game, giving up just two runs on four hits and not even allowing a base runner in five of the seven innings where Matadors came to the plate. McConnell continues to pace the Lancers with a staff-high 23 appearances, three complete games, three saves, and 85 innings pitched.

The now 14-15 (2-1 WAC) Lancers will prepare for its first trip to the Beehive State this season, traveling to Cedar City, Utah, for a three-game series against the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah. SUU (7-18, 2-4 WAC) will be looking to end their four-game losing streak, most recently being swept by Abilene Christian in Texas. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 12 and 2:30 p.m. Pacific time and Saturday's getaway game is set for a 10 a.m. Pacific start.
