CBU Earns First WAC Series Win of the Season

RIVERSIDE--- Hot bats on Sunday afternoon were the difference for the series finale between California Baptist baseball and Utah Tech. The Lancers secured its first Western Athletic Conference series win behind a 10-2 victory over the Trailblazers in the rubber match. CBU improves to 13-11 overall and is now 2-1 in conference play.

Eight Lancers found at least one hit on Sunday afternoon against Utah Tech, contributing to the 10 runs that lifted CBU to the series win. Ryan Kim was yet again the front-runner on offense for the Lancers after knocking two hits, including his sixth home run of the season. The solo shot from the DH tied the game at one before CBU put up a trio of runs in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a Chris Ramirez two-RBI single to left field.

Despite the Trailblazers drawing first blood in the second inning, Ryan Kittredge had another stellar outing that went six innings and only saw four hits. The right-hander gave up a run in the second and sixth innings, but the Lancer offense had his back and continued to dribble in the runs for an eight-run win. The CBU pitching staff gave up just two walks on Sunday afternoon while sitting down seven Trailblazers for an effective series finale.

California Baptist is in good company as it now sits atop the WAC standings with Utah Valley, Grand Canyon, and Sacramento State. No program earned a series sweep in conference play this weekend, proving that WAC play will be extremely competitive as the season progresses. CBU will now turn its attention to a midweek tilt against UC San Diego on Tuesday evening before packing its bags to head to UT Arlington for a weekend WAC series next week.
