CBU Drops Series to Utah Valley

OREM, UT--- The California Baptist baseball program dropped its series versus Utah Valley on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Wolverines 10-2. An explosive seventh inning for the home team was the difference in Orem and moved CBU to 22-21 on the season and is now 5-9 in Western Athletic Conference play.
The Wolverines jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with one swing of the bat after a two-run homer flew beyond the left field fence. CBU answered with one run courtesy of a groundout RBI from Andrew Walters in the second inning before a scoreless inning for both sides. Matt Chavez tied the game with his own groundout RBI in the top of the fourth, but that's where CBU's scoring would end for the day. UVU tagged a pair of runs to retake the lead in the fifth before exploding for six runs in the seventh to ensure a victory.
Chris Ramirez and Nick Dumensil continue to carry the Lancer offense, both posting multi-hit games. Ryan Kittredge ended his eighth start of the season with a final line of six innings pitched, two hits, three earned runs, and three strikeouts on the day.
California Baptist will now turn its attention to Sunday's 11:00 a.m. affair and will be looking to salvage the weekend with a win to avoid being swept.
