Seven Lancer Seniors Celebrated on Saturday Afternoon

RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University softball played their final conference home game on Saturday afternoon; battling not just the Wildcats but the elements as well, the Lancers would eventually fall by a score of 5-2. The result creates a tie for third with Abilene Christian, in which the Wildcats currently own the tiebreaker for the third-place seed by way of this weekend's head-to-head win.
Next week's matchups against Tarleton State and Grand Canyon for CBU and ACU, respectively, will go a long, long way toward the finalization of the seeding ahead of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, which will be hosted on the campus of California Baptist at John. C. Funk Stadium, May 7-10. The Lopes have already clinched the regular season championship, but with the nation's longest current win streak going strong (17 straight and counting), don't expect GCU to roll over and give ACU anything. Tarleton is close but still hasn't officially wrapped up the 2-seed, so the Texans will also have plenty to play for when the Lancers arrive in Stephenville next weekend.
Prior to today's contest, seven Lancer seniors were honored with pregame recognition. Malachy Russell-Millen, Kalena Burns, Morgan McConnell, Priscilla Estrada, Sydney Soto, Valerie Alvarez, and Makenna Dashiell literally and figuratively received their flowers for careers well spent at CBU. There is still more softball to be played this season, even one more home game on Monday, April 28 at 6:00 p.m. against UC San Diego (a make-up game postponed due to rain back on March 11), but these seniors were recognized today for their accomplishments and dedication. Some will resonate with Lancers for years to come in the program record book, but all will live forever as Lancers in the history of the program.
