FULLERTON, CA--- The California Baptist baseball program opened the 2026 season on the road against soon-to-be Big West rival Cal State Fullerton on Friday evening. The low-scoring affair would ultimately go the Titans' way on account of a few well-placed singles and a pair of errors from the Lancers.
The squads traded innings back and forth as neither was able to break through for a run on the board until the fourth inning. Andrew Rudd did the hard work and struck out a pair of Titans, but a single and a fielding error would give way to a CSUF lead before another single secured their second run of the fourth inning. After a scoreless fifth, CBU would answer via Carter Eberhard's bloop on the left field line to score Chris Ramirez and put the Lancers on the board.
Fullerton would extend their lead by two again after an RBI single in the seventh, and solid defense would carry them through the final innings for the win.
Newcomer Bryce McFeely and returner Riley Hunsaker led the way with a pair of hits each, while Alfredo Capacete dominated from the mound with five strikeouts across two innings of work.
California Baptist will open its home schedule tomorrow afternoon as it duels Fullerton in a doubleheader at Totman Stadium, beginning at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. The squads will finish the series on Sunday afternoon at Goodwin Field.
