RIVERSIDE --- For the second straight week, Riverside native Miranda De Nava has been named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Pitcher of the Week. De Nava made three appearances in the circle over the weekend, as the Lancers went 4-1 at John C. Funk Stadium.
The Lancers played five times over the weekend and were slated to play a sixth game tonight, but rain in Southern California pushed Monday's game against Hawaii to Tuesday afternoon.
De Nava made three starts for head coach Brandon Telesco. In those three appearances, De Nava finished 2-1 with a 2.76 ERA. She allowed ten hits, six runs (five earned), and struck out 20 batters. She has 39 strikeouts through 26.2 innings pitched this season.
Her 39 punchouts this season are tied for the seventh most in the nation.
The sophomore's best outing came on Saturday night, a 4-0 shutout of Saint Francis. De Nava held the visiting Red Flash to just two hits while striking out a career-high 12 batters. The outing was De Nava's sixth seven-inning complete game of her career, adding to the five she totaled with Cal last season.
De Nava also earned the win on Friday against CSU Bakersfield. She pitched 4.2 innings in which she held the Roadrunners to one run on three hits with seven punchouts.
Through seven appearances (five starts), De Nava is 3-2 this season with one save and a 2.89 ERA. The Lancers are 7-3 through their first ten games and are outscoring opponents 65-29.
CBU will be in action on Tuesday when they wrap up the CBU Classic against Hawaii at 1:30 p.m. The Lancers will then get Tuesday off before returning to action on Thursday for day one of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs.
The Lancers will play five times in Palm Springs, beginning with Oregon State and UC San Diego on Thursday.
