RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist Softball is highlighting the WAC's weekly award release for the seventh consecutive week. Sophomore Miranda De Nava has earned WAC Pitcher of the Week, her third selection of the season, after earning a pair of wins in CBU's conference opening series.
De Nava is one of five Lancers to earn WAC recognition this season. The right-hander was named Pitcher of the Week in back-to-back weeks to open the season. Emily Darwin and Annika Hollingsworth have both earned Pitcher of the Week as well. Makayla Medellin and Ashlee Annett have both earned Player of the Week.
A CBU player has been featured in the WAC weekly awards release each week of the season.
De Nava went 2-0 over the weekend as CBU took two-of-three against Southern Utah in the first conference series of the season. The right-hander has appeared in 24 games this season with 16 starts. She is 10-6 and has added two saves.
Friday's game one victory against the Thunderbirds saw De Nava toss a complete game shutout. She held Southern Utah to just two hits and struck out eight. De Nava allowed no walks, as she finished the game facing two batters over the minimum.
The sophomore followed up that performance with another complete game on Saturday, as the Lancers took the series behind a 7-3 win. De Nava allowed three runs on 11 hits while striking out three. For the second appearance in a row, De Nava did not allow a walk.
CBU is 24-11 overall, with a 2-1 record in conference action.
The Lancers will be in action four times this week, beginning on Tuesday when future Big West foe UC Santa Barbara comes to John C. Funk Stadium. CBU will then welcome Utah Valley to Riverside over the weekend for the first conference home series of the season.
Tuesday's game, scheduled for 5:30 p.m., will be followed by postgame fireworks.
