RIVERSIDE --- Riverside's Victoria Macias has capped off a great weekend in Texas with her first career Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Week nod. Macias, who is in her first season with the Lancers, had a big weekend at the plate that helped the Lancers to a series sweep of Abilene Christian.
Macias is batting .313 in her first Division I season. She is third on the Lancers with five home runs, with three of them coming over the weekend in Abilene.
The Lancers outscored Abilene Christian 33-3 during the three-game sweep, including shutouts in games one and three. Macias finished the series 6-for-10, recording two hits in each game, while driving in seven runs.
Macias hit her first home run, a two-run blast, to cap off a four-run top of the first for CBU. She added an RBI double in the top of the first in game two, part of a three-run inning. Her big weekend continued on Saturday with a two-home run performance in a five-inning win.
Her first home run of the day, a three-run shot, clanked off the top of the right field wall, capping off a seven-run third inning. Macias left the yard again in the fifth with a solo shot to right-center, giving the Lancers an 8-0 advantage.
With their sweep of ACU, the Lancers remain in first place in the WAC, holding a one game lead over Tarleton State. Tarleton State swept their weekend series with Utah Tech.
CBU will host Tarleton this weekend at John C. Funk Stadium, with the winner of the series claiming the top seed in next week's WAC Tournament. The Lancers can clinch a share of the WAC regular season championship with one win and will win the outright title with two victories.
The series begins with a doubleheader on Friday, beginning at 4:30 p.m., and then wraps up with Senior Day on Saturday at 2 p.m.
