Lancers Launch Four Homers in Series Opening Win

Friday's series-opening victory moves the Lancers to 36-11 overall and 9-5 in WAC action, while it also puts coach Gary Adcock two wins shy of 800 for his head coaching career.
Chris Ramirez had a day to remember, starting at the top of the second inning when he blasted a two-run home run deep to left field, clearing the berm behind the fence and narrowly staying in the stadium altogether. The sophomore shortstop did it again in the fourth when he clubbed his second long ball of the day, this one a two-run blast to left-center.
Ramirez finished the day 4-for-6, adding a double and three runs scored.
The Lancers tacked on three more runs in the fifth, capped off with CBU's third home run of the day, a two-run blast from Matt Chavez. That blast gave the Lancers a 9-5 advantage, but back came the Wolverines with a run in the bottom half, followed by two in the sixth to cut within one.
Luis Becerra kept the CBU lead intact with a perfect seventh inning, setting up a chance for insurance runs in the eighth.
The needed insurance came via Ben Castilli who broke the game open with a grand slam to push the Lancers' lead to five. Ryder Dykstra kept the rally going with an RBI single to plate Chavez and push CBU's lead to six.
Castelli finished the night 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. Both Castelli and Ramirez finished a triple shy of the cycle.
Utah Valley responded with a pair in the ninth, but that would be all, as Zachary Yates closed the door to secure the win.
Michael Malki improved his record to 10-0 with Friday's win. Malki struck out five over five innings. Beccera logged 1.2 perfect innings in relief, while Yates struck out four in his two innings on the hill.
The Lancers will go for the series victory on Saturday with first pitch being scheduled for 2:05 p.m. (PST).
