David Herd was named California Baptist University's Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach in April 2022. He previously served as the Lancers' Director of Operations for two-and-a-half seasons (2019-22).
It was a homecoming for Herd, who graduated from CBU in 2015 and served as a volunteer assistant pitching coach in the 2016 season. Prior to CBU, he worked as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center from 2017-19.
Over the last season-and-a-half (2020-21), CBU has gone 47-24 and won a share of the Western Athletic Conference regular season title. Eight Lancers earned All-WAC honors in 2021. The Lancers' 40 wins were the most by a team in the second full year of its NCAA Division I transition, while CBU received votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top-30 D-I rankings in 10 weeks.
Herd enjoyed a tremendous pitching career for the Lancers from 2012-15 and earned All-PacWest honors in 2013. His 23 career victories are tied for the fifth most in CBU's all-time career record book, while his 63 appearances rank sixth, seven complete games are tied for seventh, 245.2 innings pitched rank eighth, and his 182 strikeouts are 12th.
Herd works with Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Swim, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country/Track, and Women’s Water Polo. His excellence was recognized with the Lancers Choice Award as Staff-lete of the Year for 2023-24.
He earned two degrees from CBU, earning a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science in 2015 and a Master of Science in Kinesiology, with an emphasis in exercise science, in 2016. Herd is currently working on his Doctorate in Performance Psychology.
He and his wife Brilee have been married for eight years as of November 2024. They reside in Menifee, CA, with their son Brier and daughter Bowie. The Herd family attends Revival Christian Fellowship.
David's favorite verse is Joshua 1:9: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
