The sophomore outfielder took advantage of just her sixth start of the year in game 2 of the NAIA's No. 1-ranked California Baptist's, 3-0, 9-0, sweep of Azusa Pacific, roping a 2-run bases-loaded single off the right field fence in her first at-bat, and belting a 3-run homer in her second trip to the plate.
Moore, who finished with 5 RBI and 2 runs scored in game 2, highlighted a 12-hit effort in game 2, as the Lancers put up a 6-spot in the first inning en route to the 9-0 win, improving their overall season record to 21-1, 4-0 GSAC.
Justine Barnett had Azusa Pacific's only hit, a first-inning single, in the nightcap, as the Cougars fall to 8-10, 0-4.
After struggling to keep up its offense in the opener, California Baptist made sure that wouldn't be a problem in game 2. Sara Goforth led off the bottom of the first with a single, stole second base, and came home on Chantal Millard's 2-run home run to take a quick, 2-0, lead.
The Lancers weren't finished scoring by any means in the frame, as Nikki Lowe, Geanie Jenkins and Casandrah Carreon hit consecutive singles, leading up to
Moore's single chased starter Erin Halma (3-6), who pitched plus of an inning, allowing each of the 6 batters she faced to get a hit and score an earned run in the process.
Amy Thomas (11-0), the beneficiary of the Lancer offense's 9-run output in game 2, went 5 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, no walks, and struck out 6 Cougars on the afternoon.
Candice Thomas never had it easy in game one, as Azusa Pacific put a total of 5 runners in scoring position, including a bases-loaded, 2-out jam in the top of the seventh inning. With the tying run on first base, Thomas bore down on Barnett, who was retired on a groundout to end the game.
Thomas improved to 10-1 with the win, after throwing 7 scoreless innings of 6-hit ball. The Lancers were out-hit in the win, mustering only 5 hits by comparison. Thomas walked 2 and struck out 4, as Azusa Pacific's Camille Hundley (5-3) allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits in 6 innings to take the loss.
Carreon blasted a 2-run homer in the second, plating Jenkins to give Thomas all the support she would need for the win. The Lancers struck for a third run in the fifth inning, as Goforth doubled to lead off the frame and came around to score when Lowe's fly ball to left field was mishandled.
Azusa Pacific had 2 runners on and no outs in the second inning, but Thomas coaxed the Cougars' 2-3 hitters, Barnett and Tami Carter, to foul out and ground to first base, respectively, to escape from her first real trouble of the afternoon.
The Cougars loaded the bases in the seventh, thanks to a California Baptist error and singles by Jessi Besseghini and Lori Shimasaki, but Thomas got the game-ending groundout to Lowe at third base.
