FULLERTON, Calif. --- Amy Thomas was unhittable in game 2, and the NAIA's No. 1-ranked California Baptist pounded out 18 total hits in a, 14-1, 8-0, GSAC sweep of Hope International on St. Patrick's Day.
The Lancers improve to 25-1, 6-0 on the season, winning their 20th game in a row, as the Royals drop to 5-19, 0-8 on the year.
Thomas (13-0) issued 2 walks on the afternoon, as she struck out 6 batters in 5 shutout innings in the no-hit effort, as her sister, 2-time GSAC Pitcher of the Year Candice Thomas improved to 12-1 with the game-one victory. She allowed just 4 hits and one earned run while striking out 3 Royals in the opener.
California Baptist crushed 7 extra-base hits in game one, as Nikki Lowe ripped a 3-run homer and Casandrah Carreon went deep, doubled, and drove in 3 runs in the 14-1 victory. Lisa Teberg's leadoff long ball in the fourth inning was the only damage the Royals could do to the Lancers, who benefited from 5 Hope International errors.
Hope International made 4 more errors in the second game of the twin-killing, as Lowe drove in 3 more runs with a pair of run-scoring singles. Sara Goforth scored 3 of her 4 runs on the afternoon in the final game.
The no-hitter is CBU's first since last April 1, when Candice Thomas no-hit Hope International. Thomas also no-hit the Royals March 8, 2005, as CBU held Hope International hitless throughout both ends of a doubleheader.
