RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Chantal Millard went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI to lead California Baptist in a couple of run rules, 9-1 and 8-0, over Dominican, Friday at John C. Funk Stadium.
Millard went 1-for-1 with two runs scored for the Lancers (26-2) in the opener before going 3-for-4 with three runs scored in the nightcap.
In the opener, Amy Thomas (14-1) went the first four innings allowing just one run on one hit. Jami Escalante closed the game with an inning of relief.
Nicole Shoemaker and Briana Corral each went 2-for-3. Shoemaker drove in at least one run in each at bat. In the first she singled home Millard and then drove in Jessica Foerster in the third with on an error by the Penguins' right fielder. Shoemaker drove in her final two runs with a single up the middle that scored Maconachy and Goforth.
The Lancers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before Dominican tied the contest at 1-1 in the top of the second. The Lancers put the game away in the third and fourth innings scoring four runs each.
CBU got the eight-run cushion when Karina Slauenwhite singled home Shoemaker, in the fifth, which gave the Lancers a 9-1 lead.
In the nightcap, the Lancers scored at least one run in every inning but the fourth. Millard scored the first run of the game, in the first, on an Erin Moore single. Corral put CBU on top 2-0 when she crossed the plate on a Courtney Weber double to left.
In the third, it was the combination of Millard and Moore again that gave the Lancers a 3-0 lead. After Millard singled to lead off the inning, Moore brought her home with a double to left center. Moore scored the lone run in the fifth when Allison Dennis got an infield single.
After scoring four runs in the first five innings, the Lancers scored four more runs in the sixth including a solo home run by Shoemaker. It was her second homer of the year.
Melanie Ahumada (12-1) earned the win going the complete six innings allowing just four hits and no runs. She fanned six in the outing.
The Lancers will now host Hope International, Saturday, at noon for a GSAC doubleheader.
