HONOLULU, Hawaii — California Baptist University caught the scoring bug Saturday afternoon in its first game of a four-game swing in Hawaii, defeating Chaminade 4-1.
The Lancers now sit an even 4-4-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in PacWest play. The Silverswords fall to 2-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference.
CBU outshot Chaminade 19-to-5, so it was only a matter of time before someone found the back of the net. Kimberly Allard caught the bug first in the 16th minute of action. Justene Kesterson passed Allard a rolled back pass, which she sent first time curling into the far post netting.
Keeping the offensive pressure on full force, Jasmine Stokes gave the visiting Lancers a two-goal lead 20 minutes later. Tambrie Awai sent Stokes a through pass, where Stokes ran onto it and sent it past the Silversword goalkeeper.
Chaminade kept the Lancers at bay for the rest of the half and halfway into the second, but the Silverswords couldn't hold off the visitors much longer. Kailey Nishimura sent a weighted pass to Audrianna DeGraw. With her back to the goal, DeGraw posted up and turned on her defender to slot it home for a 3-0 CBU lead.
Chaylin Couzens also got in on the action, dribbling on a breakaway from center and finishing her one-on-one chance with ease.
The Silverswords managed to sneak one by the Lancers with just one minute left on the clock, but ran out of time to try to muster a comeback, giving CBU the 4-1 victory.
With the first of four games under their belts, the Lancers head to BYU-Hawaii next for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
