LAIE, Hawaii — For the second-straight game, California Baptist University grabbed a 4-1 victory on the road.
This time, the Lancers defeated BYU-Hawaii to improve to 5-4-0 on the season and 3-0 in PacWest play. The Seasiders drop to 3-6-0 overall and an even 2-2 in conference.
After catching the scoring bug Saturday, two new Lancers scored Monday afternoon, with Justene Kesterson netting two goals. The sophomore forward's first goal came in the 28th minute on a penalty kick. Kesterson drew a foul in the 18-yard box to get the call and slotted it past the Seasiders' goalkeeper to put CBU on the board first.
Lindsay Vesling added to the scoreboard fresh out of the halftime break, collecting a pass from Audrianna DeGraw from the middle and dribbling the length of the half to finish her breakaway to give the Lancers a 2-0 cushion.
The Seasiders put some pressure on in the 51st minute by finding the back of the net, but CBU had another response. Kesterson netted her second goal of the game, firing a shot into the upper right corner off an assist from Vesling.
Just like she had on Saturday, Chaylin Couzens put the last nail in the coffin with a goal in the 88th minute. Couzens won the ball and dribbled across the field to send a left-footed shot through traffic into the back of the net.
BYUH had one last-ditch effort with mere seconds left on the clock, but Sara Escobedo snatched the ball to lift the Lancers to the 4-1 victory.
CBU gets two days of rest before heading to Hawaii-Hilo for a 7 p.m. HST Thursday kick off. The Lancers return back from the Big Island to Oahu for their last of four games in eight days on Saturday, facing Hawaii Pacific at 3 p.m. HST.
