RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University put on quite the show for the Lancer faithful on a breezy Sunday afternoon, as the Lancers shutout the Lopes of Grand Canyon, 3-0.
With the win, the Lancers improve to 12-3-1 on the season and 5-1-0 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Lancers tie last season's win total of 12 wins after Sunday's win over GCU, and set a new program-best in conference wins with five. Last season, the Lancers went 4-4-0 in their first season with the WAC.
"For senior day, we wanted to honor a special group of seniors with a good performance today, and the team certainly did that," said head coach Kristen St. Clair.
Before the game got underway, the Lancers honored the following eight seniors: Rebecca Romero, Jordan Dow, Miranda Hald, Elisa Soderholm, Michaela Miller, Symone Mack, Vanessa Chaparro, and Camille Ramirez.
I thought we started a little slow, but led by our seniors, the team quickly picked up our performance and took the game to GCU," added St. Clair. "Our attack was dangerous, generating 35 shots, and our defense was solid holding GCU to only eight shots. We're peaking at the right time, and the team has done a good job just focusing on the aspects of the game we can control. I'm really proud of this group's grit and work mentality."
It was not a quiet day for the Lancers, as the home team fired off six shots in the first 18 minutes of action.
Cora Jacoby helped the Lancers get things started moments after their fifth shot. Jacoby crossed a ball into the box that found the head of Rola Badawiya. Badawiya's shot was saved, but the rebound came free to Jordan Dow, who was quick to put it in the back of the net.

The goal for Dow marked her third of the season.
The offensive prowess continued to shine for the Lancers, as the team took a season-high 15 shots. CBU kept the ball on the attacking half of the field for almost the entire 45 minutes, allowing just three shots by the Lopes in the first half.
The Lancers went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
CBU almost found its second goal of the match 11 minutes in, as Romero played a beautiful cross into the far side of the box to Amy Aquino. Aquino was able to hit the one-timer, but it hit the post and then bounced off the Lopes' keeper for the CBU corner kick.

With shot after shot, the Lancers were knocking on the door for their second goal of the match.
They were finally able to find their breakthrough moment in the 83rd minute when Elisa Soderholm played a ball to Miranda Hald, who found Badawiya. Badawiya took the one touch and fired a shot with her left foot to the bottom right corner for goal number two.
Teamwork!

Badawiya's goal marked her ninth of the season, which is tied for the most in the league. Rylan Childer of Kansas City also has nine goals on the year.
The Lancers weren't entirely done after that as a penalty kick was awarded after a hard foul in the box. Karley Weeks stepped up for the Lancers and buried a ball to the left side for the third and final goal of the game.
