LAS CRUCES --- California Baptist extended its win streak to six in a row on Sunday, as the Lancers shutout the Aggies of New Mexico State in a physical 1-0 contest.
CBU improves to 9-2-1 on the season and a perfect 2-0-0 in the Western Athletic Conference. With the first weekend of conference play under their belt, the Lancers are in sole possession of first place.
"We knew the weekend would be challenging, traveling over 2,000 miles in four days to two different remote locations," said head coach Kristen St. Clair. "We were not as sharp as we would have liked, but that's not unexpected with the amount of travel we had to do. This was a chippy, physical game that came down to grit and will. Despite not being sharp, we still created some excellent attacking opportunities. Rola's goal was a savvy, heads up finish. I'm proud of the team for battling through the travel and fatigue to earn two results and start league play at 2-0."
The Lancers jumped on the Aggies early, firing off a couple of quick shots to put pressure on the home team.
Although it was a quiet first half on the scoreboard, both teams were aggressive throughout the first 45 minutes. The fouls showed that as the Aggies were called for 11 fouls and the Lancers were tagged with five.
Rebecca Romero was able to give the Lancers a chance in the closing minutes after winning a corner kick. Coronado curved a ball into the box, and Erin Gallagher went for the one-touch, but the ball hit the crossbar and bounced out.

The Lancers went into the half with the score even at 0-0 but outshooting the Aggies, 6-5.
With a fresh 45 on the game clock, momentum shifted in favor of the Lancers as they kept the ball in the attacking half of the field.
After 15 minutes of play, Elisa Soderholm beat her defender to the right side of the field and fired a low cross into the box. Badawiya had space and used a back heel flick to give the Lancers' the lone goal of the game. This marks Badawiya's fourth straight game-winner for the Lancers.
