Lancers' Rally Comes Up Short

STOCKTON, Calif. – Down two, California Baptist University loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh. The Lancers' bid at a comeback fell just short, as Pacific held on for a 4-2 win to end its Libby Matson Tournament on Sunday.

Halle Rosario and Brittany Galvez had multi-hit games in the loss for CBU. Galvez doubled to leadoff the seventh and Rosario singled to put runners at the corners with one out. Mackenzie Budinger then loaded the bases when she was hit by a pitch.

Pacific made a pitching change, and it paid off, as the reliever got back-to-back strikeouts to end the game. The Tigers scored all four of their runs on a grand slam homer in the bottom of the second to spoil an otherwise strong game in the circle from Kellye Springstead.

CBU chipped away at the lead with two runs in the third. Singles from Ashley McBay and Galvez started the inning, and singles from Avalos and Rosario drove in a run to make it 4-2.

The Lancers will be back in Riverside next week to play four games at the UC Riverside Tournament against UTEP, Sacramento State and the host Highlanders.
