The Lancers ended game one with the Thunderbirds in six innings via the 9-0 run-rule victory, and then walked off for a wild 8-7, eight-inning win in the evening. CBU has now won seven of its last nine games to improve to 10-13, while Southern Utah drops to 1-13.
CBU plays four more games this weekend at the CSUN/Loyola Marymount Tournament. The Lancers play UC Santa Barbara for the third time in a week on Friday at 2:45 p.m. at LMU.
Reigning Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, Kellye Springstead, continued to build on her impressive by earning both wins on Wednesday. She started with a six-inning shutout in the game where she was two hits away from perfection, striking out eight while facing just 20 batters.
Springstead threw the 1.1 innings of the finale to earn her ninth win of the year in the circle.
Caitlyn Lloyd, Halle Rosario, Anise Avalos and Alley Johnson all had two-hit games in the opener. Both of Johnson's hits went for triples, while Avalos hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to put the run rule in effect.
CBU broke a scoreless tie with a two-run third. Lloyd started things with a one-out single up the middle and Deanna Alarcon drew a walk to put two runners aboard. Rosario drove in the first run with a single up the middle and an error in the outfield put runners at the corners.

Ashley McBay led off the sixth with a single and eventually came around to score on a fielder's choice grounder from Rosario. CBU's 7-1 lead was erased in the seventh, as the Thunderbirds scored six in the inning to force extras.
With the international tiebreaker rule in effect, Springstead stranded the runner at second and shut down SUU with a strikeout, fly ball to left and a grounder to third.
Johnson took second to start the eighth, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Arbeiter and then came home on a grounder to short where the catcher couldn't field the ball cleanly.
