Arbeiter Leads CBU to Wild Win

The Lancers earned the season-series victory over the Gauchos with an 11-8 win on Friday afternoon after both teams split the first two meetings last week at the Fresno State Tournament. It was a back-and-forth game, with two ties and four lead changes.
CBU has now won three straight and eight of its last 10 to improve to 11-13 this season. The Gauchos drop to 6-21 on the year. The Lancers continue their season at the CSUN Tournament, facing Cal Poly and Dartmouth on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively, before ending things against CSUN on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Offense got the job done for CBU, as it out hit UCSB 13-10 and had three players: Caitlyn Lloyd, Anise Avalos and Shelby Arbeiter go 3-for-4, while Amanda Argomaniz went 2-for-4 with runs batted in.
The true freshman, Arbeiter, had a breakout game with two home runs and four RBI, including the game-winning three-run homer in the top of the seventh.

CBU overcame an 8-6 deficit going into the sixth inning by scoring the final five runs of the game. Arbeiter started and finished the comeback, as she led off the sixth with a home run to cut UCSB's lead down to 8-7.

UC Santa Barbara looked like it might escape with a win, as it retired the first two batters of the top of the seventh. Argomaniz kept the game alive with a single up the middle, and Avalos put runners at the corners with a single of her own right after.
Alley Johnson insured there would be a bottom of the seventh with an infield single to shortstop. Arbeiter then gave CBU the lead for good with the three-run bomb.
Giana Lopez closed out the victory in the circle for the Lancers. UCSB got the leadoff runner aboard on an error, but a liner to shortstop led to the runner being doubled up at first. Lopez then got a popup to third to end the game.
CBU took a lead right away on Friday, as Lloyd led off the game with a ground-rule double and then took third on a sacrifice bunt from Deanna Alarcon. A throwing error then brought Lloyd home. Singles from Avalos, Arbeiter and Lloyd (RBI) gave CBU a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

The Gauchos took a 4-2 lead in the fourth, four hits led to four more CBU runs and a 6-4 lead in the top of the fifth. Ashley McBay and Lloyd started the inning with singles, and a passed ball allowed McBay to score.
A clutch two-out double from Argomaniz scored two to give CBU a 5-4 lead.
