Lancers Battle Bengals in Getaway Game

DAVIS – California Baptist wrapped up its NorCal Kickoff Tournament Sunday morning against Idaho State dropping the finale late with a final score of 10-4.
Abby Robertson, Nicole Stark, and Molly Kolander all knocked multiple hits in the game, while Stark was the only Lancer to both score and drive in a run.
The Bengals opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo homer to right center but would be held to just the one run in the frame.
CBU had a dream third inning which started with Giana Lopez striking out the side for three of her career-high eight strikeouts in the game.
The bottom half of the inning was an offensive windfall for the Lancers. CBU tallied four runs on six hits and every Lancer in the lineup saw an at-bat in the frame. Four singles, a pair of doubles, and a sacrifice bunt amounted to California Baptist holding a 4-1 lead at the end of the inning.

The Bengals would score one in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie the game at four-all. The tie was broken by Idaho State in the top of the seventh inning when the Bengals had an offensive awakening to the tune of six runs on seven hits. The Lancers would get a runner on base in each of the final three innings, but were unable to capitalize on any of those opportunities.
The Lancers return home with a 2-3 record but averaging over five-and-a-half runs and eight hits per game. They will spend a few days in Riverside before heading south of the boarder to Mexico for the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge where they will face off with post-season regulars Texas, Colorado State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.
