RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University softball has just one Western Athletic Conference series remaining on its schedule, a series against the conference leading NM State Aggies. Before the Lancers take on the top team in the standings, they will have their scheduled conference bye week and use that time to host the Nevada Wolf Pack in a three-game series at John C. Funk Stadium this weekend.
CBU is fresh off a series win against Grand Canyon, taking both games of Friday's doubleheader 3-1 and 3-2, respectively. The Lancers now hold a 19-26-1 season record while improving to 7-8 in WAC play, sitting just a half game out of third place behind the Lopes.
CBU starting pitcher Kerisa Viramontes allowed one run in the top of the first in the series opener, and only three more hits the rest of the way as her teammates would score in the first, third and sixth innings to claim victory. Deja Westbrook brought in the winning run in the bottom of the third inning, after making the defensive play of the game in the top of the inning.
Friday's nightcap was much closer as the two teams needed extra innings to settle the score. Viramontes entered the game in the top of the seventh in relief of starter Gretchen Goldsmith, and managed to keep the Lopes down long enough for the Lancers to put together a winning frame.
Amanda Argomaniz would get the bottom of the ninth started with a leadoff single, advancing to second on a sac bunt from Makayla Jordan. Freshman Maile Olsen would come up two batters later with two outs and Argomaniz still waiting on second. Olsen squared up an 0-1 pitch and put it into the left-center gap, allowing Argomaniz to score easily from second, and earning her second game-winning hit of the season.
Viramontes' efforts were rewarded on Monday morning as she was named the WAC Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 against GCU earning her conference leading 14th win of the season and extending her strikeouts total to 127 this year, currently 22 more than the next closest pitcher.

Nevada is the third Mountain West Conference team the Lancers have faced this season, having previously tussled with UNLV and San Diego State. The Wolf Pack enter this weekend's series with a 17-14 overall record and 11-7 in league, having won five of their six conference series so far.
The Wolf Pack boast three starters hitting over .340 on the year: Sadaria McAlister (.347), Lauren Gutierrez (.347) and Chelie Senini (.342). These three all have a pair of triples to their names and account for the vast majority of Nevada's offense as Gutierrez leads the team in runs batted in with 28, and McAlister and Senini are tied for the team lead in runs scored at 24 apiece. McAlister has recorded the most stolen bases, going 19-20 on the season, while Senini isn't far behind stealing at a perfect 16-16 clip this year. Nevada doesn't hit a ton of homers, but one Pack member, Kenzi Goins, leads the team with five dingers.
The two pitching staffs are nearly identical on paper. The Lancers own the edge in staff ERA by .09 (3.87–3.94), WHIP by .04 (1.52–1.56), and opponent batting average by .001 (.278-.279) percentage points.
