RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University softball hosted the Nevada Wolf Pack on Friday night in a non-conference doubleheader. The Pack would take both games on Friday night in very different ways by scores 2-0 and 9-5. CBU now sits at 19-28-1 overall while the Pack improves to 19-14 on the year.
GAME ONE
The Lancers got an incredible outing in game one from starting pitcher Kerisa Viramontes. The senior hurler ended up striking out nine Nevada batters and allowing just three hits, but one of the three hits she allowed was a solo home run in the top of the second, which would prove to be the difference in the game. Viramontes is now 14-11 on the season, still maintaining the best mark the Western Athletic Conference in wins and strikeouts (136).
Abby Robertson, Tiana Patrick, Deja Westbrook, and Alissa Montes De Oca all recorded hits in game one, but CBU was unable to bring them in.
GAME TWO
The nightcap would prove to be very entertaining as the two teams would combined to score 14 runs on 24 hits. Four Lancer errors accounted for four unearned runs which were the difference in the game, though. CBU led for a good portion of the game, exploding for four runs in the second inning. The first three Lancers reached base prior to Makayla Jordan getting warm at the plate. She would bring in the first run of the game on a strong single to left, soon followed by Maile Olsen and Ashley McBay RBI hits to extend the CBU lead to 4-0.
The Wolf Pack would claw back with a pair of runs in the third and a trio in the fourth to take a 5-4 lead. As the game went on and fewer chances became available to CBU, it was Jordan who again sparked excitement in the first base dugout when she smashed a huge solo home run over the 20-foot scoreboard in right center to tie the game at 5-5.
Nevada would go off for four runs in the top of the seventh, three of which were unearned, putting the Lancers in another hole late in the game. CBU would put runners on second and third with just one out, but a pair swinging strikeouts would bring an end to the game at Funk Stadium.
Sophomore Gretchen Goldsmith started game two for the Lancers and allowed five runs, just four earned, in 3.1 innings of work. She would be relieved by Giana Lopez midway through the fourth inning who would allow four runs total, but just one earned. Lopez would be tagged with her eighth loss of the season.

The Lancers and the Wolf Pack have one more game slated in their series on Saturday, with first pitch planned for 12 p.m.
