SAN DIEGO - California Baptist University softball doubled-up its win streak on Saturday, stretching it to four-straight after coming up victorious against CSUN (4-2) and Army West Point (8-5). The Lancers now own 5-4 record as they prepare for the tournament finale tomorrow afternoon. Katelyn Mangrello extended her hit streak to eight-straight games as CBU connected on 14 hits on the day.
VS CSUN
Jazmine Castaneda earned her third win of the season after tossing 6.2 innings of three-hit ball. She allowed just two earned runs while striking out six.
Alyssa Argomaniz was called upon to finish the game with two outs in the top of the seventh and the potential tying run at the plate. Argomaniz induced a line out to third, ending the game and earning her first career save.
CSUN scored a run in the top of the first and seventh, but the Lancers scored twice in the bottom of the first and sixth to come out on top. Maile Olsen brought in Raegan Cheyne to get the Lancers on the board with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Olsen would later scored the final run of the day for CBU.
Shelby Arbeiter was called on to pinch hit again and came up big with the RBI-single that brought in Olsen in the sixth. Amanda Argomaniz knocked in Molly Kolander for what would prove to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
VS ARMY WEST POINT
Early scoring for the Lancers came by means of heads up base running opportunities resulting from Army defensive errors. Priscilla Estrada opened scoring in the bottom of the first for CBU, scored all the way from first on a sacrifice bunt from Cheyne that the Black Knights threw away. Cheyne would later come around to score on a dropped third strike that allowed Makayla Jordan to reach first thanks in part to another errant throw by Army.
Army would methodically take a 5-2 lead by the middle of the fourth inning scoring via homerun, fielder's choice, and error. However, the Lancers would shutout the Black Knights after that, scoring two runs in bottom of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. It began with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth, efforted at the plate by Arbeiter and Amanda Argomaniz.
Amanada would again etch her name in the box score, this time with her first-career triple in the fifth, easily scoring Molly Kolander from second. Olsen got her second RBI of the day in the next at bat, sending a sac fly to right center, scoring Sydney Soto who came in to run for Argomaniz.
Insurance runs came in the sixth when Mia Alvarez scored from first on Karmyna Becerra's first collegiate triple. Becerra would score one batter later as Mangrello hit into a fielder's choice which ultimately kept both Lancers' safe.
Alyssa Argomaniz would come in for starter Amanda Hernadez in the top of the third inning and pitch 4.2 strong innings of relief to earn her second win of the weekend.
