Lancers Stumble In Series Opener Against UC Davis

DAVIS, CA - The Lancers traveled north this weekend to play out their first true road series of the season at UC Davis. Despite an early two-run lead, the Aggies would ultimately defend their home diamond, winning the contest 3-2.
It didn't take long for CBU to get on the board, plating one in the top of the second and another in the top of the third inning. The first run started as a double from Kalena Burns to right center. From there, she made it to third courtesy of a sacrifice bunt from Kate Penberthy and scored from there on a passed ball. The Lancers' second run came as Matti Severns scored on Sydney Soto's team-leading ninth RBI of the season to make it a 2-0 game.
The Aggie bats would swing the moment in a hurry in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs on two long balls. Soto recorded one more hit for the Lancers in the sixth inning, but CBU would not mount a menacing rally in the final three innings.
Soto led the way at the plate for CBU with two hits and an RBI. Burns and Merissa Borkowski also registered in the hit column. Morgan McConnell was saddled with a fourth loss this season in her seventh appearence, allowing just four hits and three earned in four innings pitched. Carly Limosnero made her season debut in relief, tossing two no-hit innings and walking just one.
CBU and UC Davis will square off again on Saturday afternoon, with first pitch coming again at 3:00 p.m.
