The Lancers Open Weekend Against St. Johns and Cal Poly

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist Softball team is set to play host this weekend as they welcome teams for the Lancers Invite from Thursday to Sunday. CBU opened their weekend against the University of St. Johns and the Cal Poly on Thursday evening, ultimately falling to both squads and are now 7-9 on the year.

The Lancers started the day against St. Johns and tallied four runs in the bottom of the second, courtesy of a pair of RBI singles and a double from Kayla Lyon for the lead. CBU staved off the Red Storm until the fifth inning when St. Johns hit a two-run home run to put them within one of the Lancer's lead. The top of the sixth went St John's way as well, as a double brought in two more runs to secure the 5-4 win.

California Baptist turned their attention to Cal Poly for their second game of the day. The Lancers started strong and struck first offensively with a double by Kate Penberthy that brought home Priscilla Estrada for a single run. The squads held each other off through the fifth inning, but the Mustangs broke through after scoring on a CBU throwing error. The go-ahead run came just three batters later as a well-placed single flew down the left line to bring home Cal Poly's winning run.

The Lancers are back at Funk Stadium on Friday afternoon for a pair of games as they rematch St. Johns at 3 p.m. and take on Idaho State for the third time this season at 5:30 p.m.
