RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University softball team rounded out the Lance Up Invite 3-2 after falling 7-1 to Sacramento State in the finale.

The Lancers finished one game behind the Hornets on the weekend, who finished 4-1. CBU, meanwhile, moves to 13-12 overall after concluding their third and final non-conference tournament.

It was a pitcher's dual through two-and-a-half innings, with Preley Hosick and Marissa Bertuccio trading no-hitters. The Lancers opened up the scoring in the bottom of the third off a Kayla Lyon single. The hit brought home Alyssa Onyeagwa, who was pinch-running for Malachy Russell-Millen. The Hornets stranded one Lancer runner to limit the damage to 1-0.

Sacramento State opened up their scoring in the top of the fourth inning, scoring a pair of unearned runs and another run off of a sacrifice bunt. Hosick was able to get out of the inning with a strikeout, but not before the Hornets had three on the board. The Hornets would score the rest of their runs in the top of the sixth inning, bringing in four runs on four hits and leaving none on base. The Lancers would be unable to bring in any runs in the final two innings against the stout pitching of the Hornets and would ultimately fall 7-1.

NEXT: The Lancers will gear up for a pair of home mid-week tilts against Princeton and Rutgers. Princeton will start the week on Tuesday at 6 PM at John C. Funk Stadium.
