RIVERSIDE, CA - California Baptist softball challenged Grand Canyon to a getaway game on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Lopes 11-4 in the Western Athletic Conference series finale. The result drops CBU to 15-20 (3-6 WAC) after three league series.

It was CBU who got off the hot start on Saturday, holding the Lopes hitless in the top of the first, and scoring a pair in the bottom. Ashlee Annett, the weekend's hitting champ, started the game with an RBI single to score Priscilla Estrada, followed immediately by Kalena Burns' sac fly to score Kate Penberthy and make it a 2-0 game early.

Unfortunately for the Lancers, the Lopes would score runs in the next five top-innings, including a game-high four-run fourth inning.

The Lancers never gave in, though, even as the bottom of the fifth began and a run-rule decision was in play as CBU trailed 10-2. The Lancers buckled down and rallied, scoring a pair of runs in the frame, courtesy again of RBI singles from Annett and Burns, this time scoring Malachy Russell-Millen and Matti Severns to make it a 10-4 scoreline. The Lopes would add one more before the final out was recorded.

CBU is home for one more game, hosting Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. before hitting the road again, heading north to take on the WAC-leading Redawks (22-12, 7-2 WAC) in Seattle.
