RIVERSIDE --- Five more games have come and gone at the CBU Classic, with the Lancers taking two of those contests on Friday. Beginning with a 6-3 victory over Saint Francis and ending in a five-inning route of CSU Bakersfield, the CBU offense put on a show for their hometown fans on Friday night.
The Lancers are now 5-3 on the season. They will play two more times on Saturday, again against SFU and CSUB.
Makayla Medellin started the scoring for CBU in the opener as she doubled to left-center, plating Kenzie Farrier-Pilon. Victoria Macias added to the attack in the third with an RBI single, driving in Medellin, to give the Lancers a 2-1 advantage.
CBU pushed across four more in the fourth thanks to a sacrifice bunt, a throwing error, a double steal, and a wild pitch.
Annika Hollignsworth was the winning pitcher in CBU's first win of the night. Hollingsworth entered in relief of Madalyn Martin and wrapped up the game with 4.2 innings in the circle. The right-hander allowed two runs on six hits with a trio of strikeouts. Hollingsworth also reached base twice via a walk.
Miranda De Nava got the nod in the second game. Coming off a short outing on Thursday, De Nava was in top form on Friday as she held CSU Bakersfield to one run over 4.2 innings. De Nava struck out seven with three hits surrendered as she moved to 2-2 on the year. Maddison Kellogg recorded the final out as she was called on to make her collegiate debut.
The Lancers struck early, posting six in the first inning as they sent 11 to the plate. Ashlee Annett started the onslaught with an RBI single to right-center. She later scored on an RBI double from Medellin. Madalyn Martin kept the line moving with a two-run single, and then Matti Severns brought in the final run with an RBI single.
CBU plated more in the third on a sac bunt and a CSUB error, and then Severns added more with a two-run single in the fourth.
Severns finished 3-for-4 with three RBI in the win. Martin went 3-for-3 with two RBI.
The Lancers will continue the CBU Classic tomorrow when they square off with CSUB and SFU once again. CBU will play Bakersfield at 4:45 p.m., followed by Saint Francis at 7:30 p.m.
