LA JOLLA, CA --- California Baptist began its latest road trip, a two-game excursion in San Diego County, on Tuesday. Taking on UC San Diego for the second time this season, the Lancers put an early stoppage to the game as a five-run fifth inning lifted CBU to a 9-1 win.
The win improves the Lancers' record to 20-8, ahead of a second game in San Diego tomorrow.
Ashlee Annett had the hot bat on Tuesday as she finished the day 3-for-3 with four RBI. Annett started the scoring in the top of the first when she was credited with a triple that plated a pair (one RBI). She added to the scoring in the third with a single down the left field line, plating Kenzie Farrier-Pilon, to make it a 4-1 game. Annett would tack on another RBI in the fifth, plating Farrier-Pilon again, to pad the lead to four runs.
CBU continued the fifth inning attack with a bloop single by Victoria Macias, scoring Makayla Medellin. Sydney Peterson then added the next run on a successful squeeze bunt. An RBI single from Stevie Robison pushed the lead to 8-1, and then Robison scored off an RBI double by Malachy Russell-Millen to give CBU the magic lead of eight runs in the fifth inning.
UCSD's only run of the day came on a solo home run in the second inning.
The Lancers finished the day with 11 hits. Matti Severns went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Russell-Millen also finished 2-for-3.
Severns also swiped three bases, giving her 19 for the season. Severns owns the CBU single-season (DI era) record for most stolen bases, and with her three stolen bases on Tuesday, she now has more stolen bases on her own than the entire 2025 Lancers finished with (16).
Annika Hollingsworth earned the win on Tuesday, improving her record to 5-1 this season. Hollingsworth allowed only one hit across two shutout innings in relief. Madalyn Martin started the game in the circle and allowed one run across three hits in two innings.
Emily Darwin tossed a perfect fifth inning to close out the win.
The Lancers will stay in San Diego tonight and continue their road trip on Wednesday against San Diego State. Wednesday's game will not be streamed, and it is scheduled for 6 p.m.
CBU will be back at John C. Funk Stadium this weekend to begin a three-game series against North Dakota State on Friday.
