SAN DIEGO, CA --- A seven-game road trip for California Baptist softball came to an end on Wednesday with the second of back-to-back nights in San Diego. Taking on San Diego State this time, the Lancers were shut out for just the second time this season, as the Aztecs won in six innings, 8-0.
Wednesday's loss drops the Lancers to 20-9 on the season and 4-2 in true road contests.
The road trip began last week with a visit to Boise for the Blue Collar Classic. The Lancers went 2-3 in Idaho but bounced back last night with a win at UC San Diego. Wednesday's loss ends the road trip at 3-4.
Miranda De Nava is credited for the loss on Wednesday night after allowing two runs on eight hits in her 3.2 innings of work. De Nava is now 6-6 on the season. Emily Darwin tossed the final two innings in relief.
Offensively, CBU recorded three hits. Ashlee Annett, the hot bat from Tuesday night, finished with two of those base hits as she went 2-for-2. Annett finishes the San Diego leg of the trip a perfect 5-for-5 at the dish.
SDSU started its scoring with a run in the second and followed it up with another run in the third. A third run crossed home in the fifth, but then the big inning came in the sixth when the Aztecs plated five runs to put an early end to the ballgame.
The Lancers will resume their season on Friday, kicking off a three-game series against North Dakota State. Friday's action will be a doubleheader, with the first game starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday will wrap up the series with a game at 2 p.m.
