Lancers Grab Conference Opening Series Victory

The Lancers are now 24-11, with their conference record moving to 2-1.
Makayla Medellin had the hot bat in the series finale as she drove in three of CBU's seven runs. Medellin finished the day 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Ashlee Annett, Malachy Russell-Millen, Madalyn Martin, and Jordyn Madrigal also drove in runs for the Lancers.
CBU got on the run first in the top of the first when Medellin singled in a run. SUU leveled the score in the bottom half, but CBU answered with four runs in the third to make it a 5-1 game. The Lancers tacked on insurance runs in the sixth and seventh.
Earning the win was right-hander Miranda De Nava, who tossed another complete game to push her record to 10-6. De Nava struck out three.
CBU will be back at John C. Funk Stadium this week for four games, starting with a Tuesday matchup against future Big West rival, UC Santa Barbara. The Lancers will then welcome Utah Valley to Riverside over the weekend for the first home conference series of the year.
