Midweek Tilt Goes to the Gauchos, 4-1

RIVERSIDE --- The Lancers kicked off the longest homestand of the season on Tuesday with a look ahead at the Big West, as UC Santa Barbara visited John C. Funk Stadium. The runs came early in Tuesday's midweek tilt, as it was the Gauchos who got the better of CBU in the early going, setting up a 4-1 win.
Tuesday's loss moves the Lancers to 24-12 in head coach Brandon Telesco's first season.
The Lancers cashed in first as Ashlee Annett doubled to center field, plating Kenzie Farrier-Pilon, to make it a 1-0 CBU lead in the first inning. But the Gauchos quickly got the run back in the second when Jazzy Sachez singled in a pair to give UCSB a 2-1 lead.
UCSB added to its lead in the third on a two-run home run from Emily Carr.
Emily Darwin took the loss on Tuesday, dropping her record to 6-4. Darwin allowed four runs on four hits in her two innings of relief.
Miranda De Nava got the start on Tuesday and proceeded to toss a perfect first inning before Telesco turned to Darwin. De Nava returned to the game in the fourth and allowed only one hit over her next four innings of work.
De Nava's final line saw five shutout innings with one hit, two walks, and six punchouts.
Tuesday's game was highlighted by special events before and after the game. Dominique Daniels Jr., the WAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year, threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Fans were then treated to a postgame fireworks show to end the night.
CBU will continue the homestand this weekend when Utah Valley visits Riverside for the first home conference series of the season. The series kicks off with a doubleheader on Friday, beginning at 4 p.m., and wraps up on Saturday with a single game at noon.
The Lancers' homestand is nine games and runs through Tuesday, April 7.
