BOISE, ID --- California Baptist wrapped up day three of the Blue Collar Classic on Saturday, bringing to an end a five-game trip to Boise. Taking on Weber State for the second day in a row, a walk-off home run again ended the game, with this time it being Weber to throw the final punch and hand CBU a 6-5 loss.
The Lancers leave Boise after a 2-3 showing. CBU is now 19-8 overall though 27 games.
CBU were the first ones to get on the board as an error in the first inning plated Makayla Medellin. Medellin has been the star of the show this weekend, hitting four home runs in two days, including Friday's walk-off grand slam. The CBU centerfielder added one more on Saturday as she hit a two-run shot in the third, her fifth of the weekend, giving the Lancers a 3-1 lead.
Medellin closed out the weekend in Boise 7-for-17 at the dish with five home runs 12 RBI and seven runs scored.
The Lancers added to their lead in the fourth, starting with a successful squeeze play that scored Malachy Russell-Millen. A groundout later scored Sydney Peterson, pushing CBU's lead to 5-1.
Weber State mounted their comeback, beginning in the fourth when a three-run home run cut the score to 5-4. Then the final blow came in the last of the seventh, a two-run walk-off home run to end CBU's trip on the losing end.
Miranda De Nava was delt the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of relief work. Emily Darwin started the game and allowed four runs (three earned) across 4.1 innings.
The Lancers will be back in action this week with a pair of midweek game sin San Diego. The road trip begins on Tuesday when the Lancers visit UC San Diego and concludes on Wednesday with a trip to San Diego State. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m.
CBU will be back at John C. Funk Stadium on Friday to begin a three-game series with North Dakota State.
