STOCKTON, Calif. – California Baptist University came close to shocking the softball world again on Saturday, but fell just short Oregon State of the Pac-12 Conference, 2-0.

It was part of a doubleheader for the Lancers at the Libby Matson Tournament hosted at Pacific, with CBU falling to Nevada earlier in the day, 10-4. The Lancers put together a great game in a the 2-0 loss to the Beavers, who are receiving votes in the NCAA Division I top-25 poll.

A rematch with host Pacific Sunday at 12:15 p.m. will end the Libby Matson Tournament for the Lancers. The Tigers just eked out a 1-0 win over CBU on Friday. The Lancers will be back in Riverside next week to play four games at the UC Riverside Tournament against UTEP, Sacramento State and the host Highlanders.

Giana Lopez threw 5.1 shutout innings in the circle against Oregon State Saturday night. She came on in relief in the bottom of the first inning after the Beavers scored two runs and had the bases loaded with two outs. Lopez quickly ended the threat with a fly ball to center field.

Lopez allowed just five hits and a walk over the final five innings, but CBU could not get anything going on the Beavers offensively. Halle Rosario and Mackenzie Budinger accounted for the Lancers' two hits in the game.

CBU's record moves to 2-8 this season, while Nevada and Oregon State improve to 6-5 and 11-2. Brittany Galvez led CBU in the loss to Nevada earlier Saturday. She hit her team-high third home run of the season while going 2-for-2 in the game.

The homer from Galvez in the bottom of the first cut CBU's deficit to 3-1, and Nevada scored the next five runs to go ahead 8-1 in the fourth. The Lancers fought to get back in the game with three run scored in the bottom of the fourth.

Walks to Budinger, Rosario and a Shelby Arbeiter loaded the bases with no outs. Manoa Weijgertse brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly to right field. Makenna Stram brought home another run with a single, and a Galvez single reloaded the bases with two outs.

Amanda Argomaniz drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 8-4, but the Wolfpack ended the inning right after. Nevada two more insurance runs in the seventh to complete the 10-4 win.
