SANTA CLARA -- California Baptist University softball completed day two of the Silicon Valley Classic tournament, this time at Santa Clara University. The Lancers were unable to get their bats going on the day, as it fell to Boise State (8-0) and Cal Poly (12-0) in six and five innings, respectively.
GAME 1: Boise State 8 - CBU 0
The first game of the day started off promising enough with the Lancers making eye-popping defensive plays all over the field.
Eventually, the Broncos started to find the gaps in the Lancer defense and took advantage to the tune of seven runs in the fourth inning. They would score one more in the top of the sixth to engage the run-rule limit with CBU unable to answer in the bottom of the frame.
Mackenzie Budinger recorded the team's only hit in the game, a well-hit single to the shortstop in the bottom of the fourth inning.
GAME 2: Cal Poly 12 - CBU 0
Game two saw the Lancers struggle with the same offensive issues, this time with Caitlyn Lloyd collecting CBU's lone hit of the game, a single up the middle in the bottom of the first.
The Mustangs scored two in the first, three in the second, and then 11 batters knocked in seven runs on six hits in the third, getting Cal Poly to their final tally of 12 runs.
CBU will finish off the tournament with a single game against Yale on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. in San Jose.
