SB Preview: Lancers Open 2020 In NorCal

RIVERSIDE – The California Baptist University softball team rings in the 2020 season with a trip up north for a set of five games in four days. The contests will be split between the campuses of UC Davis and Sacramento State and will play host to a total of eight participating schools.
The Lancers are looking to open the 2020 campaign strong after finishing their inaugural Division I season in 2019 with a final record of 21-33. They will have a stiff test to begin their sophomore DI season, taking on a UC Davis Aggies team who finished 39-14 and sweeping the only common opponent between the two teams, the eventual WAC Champions Seattle U.
The NorCal Kickoff tournament will be hosted by a pair of schools with Sac State shouldering the other half of the load. The Lancers will face off with both host schools, taking on the Hornets in game three of the trip. Sac State is the only other team in the field that the Lancers will face who finished 2019 with a winning record at 31-25.
As the host schools, UC Davis and Sac State will live stream all of its contests, including the two against CBU, all other neutral site games will only have live stats provided to fans.
In their other three games, the Lancers will take on Saint Mary's College, UC Santa Barbara, and Idaho State, three teams that combined to go 44-106 in 2019.
Since this is the first true action of the season for the team, Head Coach Bill Baber is sure to reach deep into his reserves early to see what he's got available to him. With over half of his 28 player squad donning the CBU uniform for the first time, Baber will no doubt play as many different Lancers as he can during this opening slate.
