Lancers Wrap Up Day Two at Las Vegas Desert Classic

LAS VEGAS – Six Lancers put together multi-hit games for California Baptist University softball on day two of the Las Vegas Desert Classic. The Lancers fought but dropped both games against Weber State and Utah on respective scores of 6-1 and 14-7 on Saturday.

Ashley McBay and Abby Robertson opened the day with two-hit games against Weber State. Brittany Galvez, Makayla Jordan, Tiana Patrick and Molly Kolander all collected a pair of base knocks against Utah to close out the day.

CBU was close to pulling out another quality, Power 5 win over Utah, a member of the Pac-12 Conference. The Lancers took a 7-5 lead into the seventh, but the Utes erupted for nine runs in the final frame for a wild 14-7 victory.

Utah improves to 7-2 on the year, Weber State moves to 3-5 and CBU moves to an even .500 at 4-4. The Lancers close out the weekend at the Las Vegas Desert Classic with a rematch against Weber State Sunday at 9 a.m. The game will be streamed live on YouTube and be statted live on Sidearm.

The Lancers scored first on Saturday, as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first against Weber State. McBay started things off with a one-out single and a steal of second, and came around to score on an RBI single from Katelyn Mangrello.

In game two, CBU battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the second inning. The Lancers broke out for seven runs in the bottom of the second to take a 7-3 lead. The rally came on six hits and one error. Galvez and Jordan landed the big blows of the inning, with two and three-run doubles in the frame.

Mia Alvarez and Patrick also drove in runs in the inning, while Molly Kolander and McBay singled, as well.
