SEATTLE – California Baptist University softball closed out its final road trip of the season with one final game against Seattle U on Saturday, dropping the rubber match 3-0 at Logan Field. The Lancers move to 17-25-1 overall and 5-7 in the Western Athletic Conference. With today's win, Seattle U regains sole possession of first place in the WAC and now sit at 19-17 and 6-3 in conference.
Lancer ace Kerisa Viramontes held the Redhawks to just three earned runs, with the help of three strikeouts in six innings of work. Today's outcome marked her fourth complete game of the year in which she gave up three or fewer earned runs. Despite the tough loss, Viramontes is currently tied for first in the WAC with 12 wins and still leading the conference in strikeouts with 122.
The Lancer offense was unable to give Viramontes much support in her effort, as CBU recorded just two hits in the game. A pinch-hit triple by Samantha Demyon in the sixth and a long single off the wall by Tiana Patrick in the seventh were all the Lancer bats could muster against a strong Seattle U pitching staff.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lancers have three series left on their schedule, all of which will take place in the friendly confines of John C. Funk Stadium. Next week's series will pit the Lancers against the Lopes of Grand Canyon, with an opening doubleheader at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 23 before the series finale at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
