CBU Battles Colorado State in CBU Classic Championship Game

RIVERSIDE – Championship Sunday action did not disappoint as California Baptist and Colorado State battled for the CBU Classic title. The two teams combined for 17 hits, 11 runs, and a handful of defensive gems before the Rams ultimately took the result with a late rally, 6-5.

The Lancers struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the top o the first as Colorado State had clinched the higher seed on Friday and Saturday to earn the home team advantage. Priscilla Estrada led off with an opposite-field double and scored two batters later thanks to a Maya Martinez RBI. Saturday's hero Samantha Demyon plated Natalie Elias as the next hitter with a single up the middle.

CSU tied the game in the third with a groundout and a single. CBU took back the lead with three more runs in the top of the fourth, as Sydney Soto was brought home by Ashlee Annett, and Estrada came up clutch again, bringing in pinch runner Ryley McDaniel.

The Rams chipped away after that, scoring one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and the game-winner in the sixth inning. The Lancers are back on the road next week, playing a single game against Georgia State on February 23 before heading to the University of Georgia Classic on Feb. 24-26.
