Dumesnil Walks it Off Against CSUN on Monday

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist baseball team earned their second walk-off win of the season on Monday afternoon after taking down California State Northridge 3-2. In a tight game fueled by solid pitching and strong defense, Nicholas Dumesnil came through for the Lancers with an RBI single for the win in the bottom of the ninth. California Baptist improves to 16-9 on the season, while CSUN drops to 14-10.
The Matadors struck first after a quiet first inning and added a pair of runs for the lead across the second and third innings, going unanswered until the bottom of the sixth. A single and walk put on a pair of runners for the Lancers, bringing up Gunner Antillon with two outs on the board. The junior transfer nailed a double down the left field line that brought home both runners to knot the game 2-2 heading into the seventh inning.
Neither team was able to break through each other's defense during the final innings of the contest, until the bottom of the ninth. After Ryan Hetzler secured the final defensive inning by working through three CSUN batters, Ryan Kim came up big with a leadoff single to put the go-ahead run on first. A sacrifice bunt from Antillon moved the runner to second and Dumesnil came up the bat with two outs on the board, singling to left field for the walk-off win.
Antillon tallied two hits on Monday evening and played a crucial role in tying the game for the Lancers, while also moving the runner into scoring position during the bottom of the ninth. On the pitching side, the CBU staff combined for five strikeouts and allowed nine hits as Hetzler picked up his fourth win of the season.
California Baptist is back in action on Thursday at 6 p.m. to kick off an Easter weekend series against WAC opponent UT Arlington.
