RIVERSIDE --- The first of 15 games in the 2026 CBU Classic pitted LMU and CBU against one another at John C. Funk Stadium. LMU tacked on five runs in the first two innings, setting the tone for what ended in a 6-1 win for the visiting Lions.
Thursday was the Lancers' home opener. CBU is now 3-3 following their five games in Las Vegas and Thursday's loss.
Right-hander Miranda De Nava made her first appearance in the circle since being named the WAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday. De Nava's day ended in the second inning when head coach Brandon Telesco turned to the bullpen with the bases loaded and four runs already in from the Lions early in the game. LMU opened the game with a three-spot in the first inning.
De Nava's official line ended with one inning of work, allowing five runs (four earned) across five hits, two walks, and one strikeout. She is now 1-2.
Emily Darwin was the arm to replace De Nava. Darwin allowed a sacrifice fly to the first batter she faced and then recorded the next two outs to escape the jam. Darwin then posted five scoreless innings in a row before LMU tacked on an additional run in the seventh.
CBU eventually got the offense in motion in the fifth inning thanks to a one-out triple from Malachy Russell-Millen. Russell-Millen later scored on a wild pitch, giving the Lancers their only run of the day.
The Lancers closed the game with six hits, two coming from Kenzie Farrier-Pilon, who also doubled in the fifth.
LMU, now 6-1 to start the season, was backed by Lindsy O'Dell in the circle. O'Dell tossed a complete game in which she walked three and struck out two. She is now 3-0.
Darwin's line ended with six innings of work, six strikeouts, two hits allowed, and one run.
The Lancers will return to Funk Stadium tomorrow as the CBU Classic rolls on with day two. CBU is scheduled to play at 4:45 p.m. against Saint Francis and then retake the field at 7:30 p.m. against CSU Bakersfield.
