SB Preview: Conference Season Shifts to Riverside as CBU Hosts Utah Valley

RIVERSIDE --- Games two through four of CBU's nine-game homestand get underway this weekend, as the Lancers welcome Utah Valley to Riverside for the first home conference series of the year. Both teams enter the weekend 2-1 in WAC action, following the first week of the conference season.
The Lancers won their WAC opening series, 2-1, on the road against Southern Utah. Sophomore Miranda De Nava earned both of CBU's wins, doing so in complete game fashion both times, earning her a third WAC Pitcher of the Week selection.
CBU followed up its conference-opening series with a 4-1 loss against UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday night. De Nava allowed only one hit in five shutout innings of work. Ashlee Annett drove in the Lancers' lone run, an RBI double in the first inning.
De Nava is 10-6 this season with a 2.67 ERA. She leads the Lancers with 110.0 IP and 98 strikeouts.
Utah Valley opened the conference season at home last weekend and took two-of-three from Utah Tech. The Wolverines have added two non-conference games this week, a pair of losses to Nevada and BYU.
The Utah Valley offense features six hitters posting an average of over .350 this season. Tatum Hall leads the squad with her .425 clip, adding a team-leading seven home runs. Ry Binne is second on the team, hitting .400, with 22 hits in her 55 at-bats. Emma Haygood leads the Wolverines with 28 RBI, doing so with a .398 average, six doubles, and six home runs.
Lily Riley leads UVU in the circle with a 2.73 ERA in 89.2 IP. Riley is the only UVU arm to feature an ERA under 4.00.
The Lancers have been led offensively by Makayla Medellin, who has a team-best nine home runs and 37 RBI. Medellin is hitting .355 with a .393 OBP. Kenzie Farrier-Pilon has the best average on the team, hitting .382 in her freshman campaign. Matti Severns, the primary leadoff hitter for the Lancers, has a CBU record 24 stolen bases this season.
CBU has already stolen 57 bases this year, a DI program record.
The series gets underway on Friday with a doubleheader at John C. Funk Stadium, beginning at 4 p.m. The second game will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m. Action resumes on Saturday with the series finale at noon.
CBU will also be in action next week on Tuesday against CSUN at 6 p.m.
