BOISE, ID --- The Lancers are off to another packed weekend of softball, as this week takes CBU to The Gem State for Boise State's Blue Collar Classic. CBU will play five times across three days, as the Lancers look to right the ship and get back to their winning ways.
CBU comes into the weekend 17-5 but has fallen on hard times, losing back-to-back for the first time this season. The Lancers saw their 14-game win streak end last weekend in a 10-5 loss to No. 23 Arizona State, and then CBU was left hitless in a 3-0 loss against LMU on Tuesday.
During their win streak, the Lancers were outscoring opponents 112-30. CBU is outpacing opponents by 85 runs through 22 games this season.
Pitching has been on the side of the Lancers this season. Earlier this week, Annika Hollingsworth became the third pitcher to win WAC Pitcher of the Week, joining Miranda De Nava and Emily Darwin. CBU has won all four of the conference pitching awards to start the season. The CBU pitching staff features a 2.89 ERA this season. Madalyn Martin (3-0) has a 2.06 ERA through 17.0 IP. Darwin is 5-2 with a 2.22 ERA (41.0 IP).
Offensively, the Lancers are batting .305 as a unit this season and are led by freshman Kenzie Farrier-Pilon, who is hitting .400. Brooklyn Bassett, the reigning D1Softball Mid-Major Freshman of the Week, leads the Lancers with four home runs. Makayla Medellin has a team-leading 20 RBI, followed by Ashlee Annett with 18.
The Lancers will square off against four opponents this weekend, beginning on Thursday with a matchup against Portland State. CBU will then play the hosts of the weekend, Boise State, on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. (PST).
Friday will see the Lancers battle St. Thomas to start the day, followed by a noon meeting with Weber State. CBU and Weber will meet again on Saturday to wrap up the trip.
Only Thursday's game against Boise State will be streamed, and it can be found on the Mountain West Network.
This weekend's trip will be the final in-season invitational for the Lancers. CBU has visited Las Vegas and Palm Springs for round-robin play, and the Lancers also hosted the CBU Classic, which included six games for CBU. The Lancers will visit San Diego next week for single games at UC San Diego (Tuesday) and San Diego State (Wednesday), before returning to Riverside for their first traditional series of the season.
North Dakota State will visit John C. Funk Stadium next weekend for a three-game series. That will be the final tune-up for the Lancers before the WAC season opens on March 20.
