Medellin Hits Three Home Runs in Thursday’s Split

BOISE, ID --- Day one of the Blue Collar Classic ended in a split for California Baptist, as the Lancers saw their losing skid both extend and end. On an overcast day in Idaho, the ball was jumping as a three home run day by from Makayla Medellin highlighted a busy day on the diamond.
CBU lost their opening contest, 7-3, against the Vikings of Portland State. They rebounded with a 5-1 afternoon victory against the Boise State Broncos.
Medellin was the offensive star of the day. She provided a two-run home run in the top of the third inning of game one, cutting PSU's lead to 5-3. She went 2-for-4 against the Vikings, extending her on-base streak to eight games.
CBU also scored in the second inning on a Brooklyn Bassett double to right-center.
Annika Hollingsworth took the loss against the Vikings after allowing five runs on five hits in her two innings of work. Emily Darwin then tossed the final five innings. Darwin allowed two runs across six hits.
The Lancers outhit the Vikings to start the day, 10-7. Kenzie Farrier-Pilon had four of those base hits, finishing 4-for-4 to move her average to .435 this season. Matti Severns and Medellin also had multi-hit games.
CBU then took the field against Boise State, this time wasting no time getting on the board. Medellin gave the Lancers an early 2-0 lead when she hit her second home run of the day. Two innings later, Medellin sent a towering shot over the center field fence to make it 4-0.
The Lancers added one more in the sixth on a double steal. Laci Lopez swiped home on the play.
Miranda De Nava was the defensive star of the game as she tossed a complete game to earn her sixth win of the season. De Nava allowed just two hits, one being a solo home run, as she also struck out seven Broncos.
CBU is now 18-6 entering day two in Idaho.
Friday will again see the Lancers take the field twice, the first coming against St. Thomas (MN) at 10 a.m. (PT). CBU will then play Weber State at 12:30 p.m. (PT). There will be no live stream of tomorrow's games, only live stats.
