Lancers Complete the Sweep of Mavericks With a Huge Saturday win

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University softball recorded the first conference series sweep of the year on Saturday, downing UT Arlington 12-1 in a shortened game. Kayla Lyon and Mackenzie San Pedro hit multi-run homers in the win, giving starter Morgan McConnell a big cushion to work with as she cruised to her fifth win of the season.
The Lancers put up crooked numbers in three of the four innings they hit, beginning the game with Lyon's third home run of the season, a three-run shoe in the bottom of the first.

Samantha Demyon plated Riley McDaniel on a sac fly in the third. Still, the highlight of the inning came in the next at-bat when birthday girl Mackenzie San Pedro crushed her first career homer, scoring herself and Maya Martinez to blow the game open at 6-0.

The Mavericks would get one back in the top of the fourth as an unearned run scored on a ground out. But the Lancers poured it on in the bottom of the fourth, plating six runs on just two hits but capitalizing on five free passes in the frame to make it a 12-1 lead.
The Lady Mavs would lead off the fifth with a single, but a double play and a groundout ended the game early as the run rule took effect. McConnell didn't allow a hit to UTA until the top of the fourth, a hit that broke up her progressing perfect game. She still dominated, allowing just two hits, zero earned runs, and striking out one Mav.
The Lancers will play one more at home next week before returning to Texas for their third conference series of the year. On Tuesday, San Diego State will visit Funk Stadium for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch.
